New Year's Blessing

New Year’s Reflections

Looking back on the months gone by,
As a new year starts and an old one ends,
We contemplate what brought us joy,
And we think of our loved ones and our friends.

Recalling all the happy times,
Remembering how they enriched our lives,
We reflect upon who really counts,
As the fresh and bright new year arrives.

And when I ponder those who do,
I immediately think of you.

Thanks for being one of the reasons I'll have a Happy New Year!

Great evening!

Inspired by the popular television series, Dancing with the Stars, Dancing for the Kids is an evening like no other in Edmonton, where local celebrities are paired with professional dance partners in a friendly ballroom dance competition. Funds raised help support two local organizations, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Edmonton and the Rotary Club of Edmonton Sunrise.
Dancing for the Kids impressed and entertained, with cocktails at 5:30 pm, dinner at 6:00 pm and dance program at 8:00 pm.
My son was one of the celebrity dancers. To watch their performance click on video below.

Life Q's Weeks 33 and 34 and good news about my brother!

Crazy busy times!!

I have been super busy lately. First we have continued to haul in our harvest of veggies and apples!!! What an abundance we have! I made some yummy bread and butter pickles and I am prepping some apples for some organic apple jelly to sell for our annual Christmas Craft and Bake sale upcoming in November.
I've also been busy teaching prenatal classes which is fun. For the last group I made them some goody bags to take home!

I ***heart*** Harvest Time!

I love harvest time and this year we thought we'd try something a little different. After watching webcajun The Bayou Gardener on Youtube, we decided we would try to chop and freeze our onions we grew at the community garden. We prepped everything outside in the garage with the door opened which REALLY stopped the tears from flowing and now we have 16 bags of ready to use chopped onions for the winter!!

The Dinosaurs have retUrNeD!!!

The days of the dinosaurs roar to life again in Jurassic Forest, a 40-acre prehistoric preserve, just 15 minutes from Edmonton and 250 million years from the present.
Gigantic, life-sized and startlingly realistic dinosaurs live and breathe in Jurassic Forest, and my daughter is having a birthday party for her son who is turning four!
We had so much fun creating his invitations with my new Cricut machine and the SureCutsAlot program.
After his recent trip with us to Drumheller he is all pumped up about dinosaurs so this should be fun!!!

Farmer's Market right outside by back door!

We've been complaining alot about the horrendous mosquitoes that have descended upon our fair city and I even found myself wishing for winter(argh!!) but this morning, I took a step outside my back door and within minutes my arms were full with a wonderful tomato harvest and a nosegay of daisies and I realized that THIS is why I love summer!!!

I had such a wonderful time yesterday reconnecting with dear, dear friends that I haven't seen in such along time. We met at their new home and were greeted at the door with refreshing Mimosas and were served a delicious brunch of a fritta-like mini omlettes (yummo!!!)homemade cheesey scones and delicious fresh fruit consisting of fresh figs and juicy, pink grapefruit. It was topped off by a fruit crumble but most especially with warm conversation and loving hugs. I never want to wait so long to get together again but reconnecting was awesome!!!

Travelogues - Sisterhood of the Traveling Journals

Come join along!!!
Imagine having a beautiful mixed media journal that has been created by other artisans and online sister friends that you admire!
You would chose a journal (lightweight for mailing), and an individual topic/theme.
You would then create, in any media desired, the cover, instructions page ( where you might request certain colors, materials etc that you would like used in your journal) and then you would complete a layout in the desired topic/theme before mailing it.
You would then send your journal on to the next person on the list provided to you by the moderator.(me!)
You would wait to receive the next journal in the round robin and so on until all of the journals find their way back home to their original owners.Kind of like a 'sisterhood of traveling journals!'
Go to Your Paper Pantry, register and find Travelogues under the 'Groups' heading.
Some suggested topics for the journals can be found here:

Yummo! Mini Cheeseburger Salad

I made this recipe for a pot luck party yesterday, and it was a smash hit! (and it's low G,I. too!)
Recipe courtesy Rachael Ray
1 1/2 pounds ground sirloin or ground turkey
1/4 cup finely chopped onion, eyeball it
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons steak seasoning blend or coarse salt and ground black pepper
Extra-virgin olive oil, for drizzling
3/4 pound brick sharp Cheddar (I used low fat cheese )
3 large hearts romaine lettuce
1 cup sliced pickles, drained – choose from sweet, half-sour or dill varieties
1 cup cherry or grape tomatoes
3 tablespoons yellow mustard (recommended: French's brand. I added a little Splenda)
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil, eyeball it
2 tablespoons finely chopped chives
1/4 small red bell pepper, finely chopped
Preheat a grill pan or a large nonstick skillet over medium high heat or, preheat outdoor grill.
Combine the meat with onion, Worcestershire and steak seasoning or salt and pepper. Form 2-inch meatballs, then flatten them into patties. Drizzle formed mini patties with extra-virgin olive oil to keep them from sticking to cooking surface.
Slice the brick of cheese into 1/4-inch pieces. Place patties into a preheated pan or grill pan or arrange on outdoor grill. Cook the mini burgers for 3 minutes on each side then add cheese to melt over patties. On outdoor grill, close the lid to melt cheese. In a skillet or on a grill pan, tent the mini cheeseburgers loosely with foil to melt cheese.
Coarsely chop romaine and combine with sliced pickles and halved cherry or grape tomatoes.
Whisk together the mustard and cider vinegar. Stream in the extra-virgin olive oil. Add the chopped chives and pimentos, stir to combine
Arrange mini cheeseburgers on salad and drizzle prepared yellow mustard over the completed dish.

Non Toxic Wasp Killer

I don't know about you but we seem to be have a large influx of wasps already this year.I woke up in the night to go to the bathroom and looking across from me on the sink was the queen mother of wasps!! I jumped up so fast and I thank God for Keigels or I would have peed my pants!!I've been searching the net for ways to kill them without poisoning everyone else and I came across this super easy, inexpensive recipe.
How to Make a Non-toxic Wasp Spray
Difficulty: Easy
Things You'll Need:
* Dish soap.
* Water
* A container that helps you spray the solution from far away: dish soap dispenser, spray bottle, or 2 liter bottle.
Step 1
Find a container for spraying water long distances...something with a narrow opening. Something you can squeeze. Something like a dish soap bottle or a two liter bottle.
A spray bottle may work for weaker concentrations of soapy water, but the soap may jam the spray mechanism.
Step 2

Fill the container with a mixture of dish soap and water.Use about 1/8 cup of soap for every two cups of water.Mix it up really good. For best results and maximum killing power, use very hot water.
Step 3
Find the wasps nest and spray the heck out of it with the soap water solution.
The soap coats the wasps' wings so they can't fly, and coats their exo-skeletons so they can't breathe. They suffocate to death. When it's clear the wasps are down and dying and nobody is coming back out to rally the troops, knock down the nest and dump more soap water into it.
Step 4
Turn on the hose and wash the soap water off whatever you sprayed it on.

Viva Vintage!!

I am just loving vintage shopping with my daughter. We have found some of the most awesome things!
I found a great picture frame for $2.99, spray painted some screening green and stapled it to the back and hung all of earrings on it on a wall in my bathroom!
My daughter found this amazing dresser for only $1.00 and created a beautiful tableau potting station in her back yard. Love it!!

Creat a beautiful Child's name plate

My 'dupes!'

Monica's Ghetto Mist( my version of Glimmer Mist)
Fill spray bottle 3/4 full of water.
Add re-inker color of your choice
add 1/4-1/2 tsp. mica powder
Add 1/4 tsp. hair spray

Monica's Shimmer Paint Recipe
Fill a small container with any Metallic Pearl White Paint ( I used Folk Art brand availble at Walmart)
Add a few drops of re-inker until you achieve the color desired.
Stir well with a stir stick.

Both of these are very economical and work great!!

Finally finished knitting this shawl....

I really wanted a shawl with buttons so I didn't have to constantly re adjust on my shoulders and I love how this turned out. I used some leftover yarn to cover 2 vintage buttons and it worked out so well.It seemed like this project took me so long but I wasn't in any rush as it was a TV watching project!

Fango Mud kinda day....

There's nothing like some Borghese Fango Active Mud to make a girl feel better!
For as long as I can remember in my adult life, whenever I feel like crap I always feel refreshed after a facial of Fango mud. It's so tingly and just makes you feel awesome.

20 pounds down!! woo hoo!!!!

Go here for a is list of what the G.I. is in most foods taken from The G.I. Diet Guide:
One of the Internet's most comprehensive lists of foods with their glycemic index. If you are following the GI or South Beach diet you should aim to include more foods with a low glycemic index in your diet. Your body will digest these foods slowly leaving you feeling full for longer and allowing you to eat less calories without feeling hungry. Adding a low GI food to a meal will lower the glycemic index of the whole meal. You can find meals that include low GI foods in our recipe section.

If you prefer the traffic light system used in the low G.I. diet book by Rick Gallop you can find the same data below arranged in red, yellow and green zones on our glycemic index chart.

For help choosing what to buy and eat when out and about you can keep details of GI values with you using one of the cheap pocket guides; such as: The Glycemic Load Counter or The New Glucose Revolution Shopper's Guide to GI Values 2008

Glycemic Index

The number listed next to each food is its glycemic index. This is a value obtained by monitoring a persons blood sugar after eating the food. The value can vary slightly from person to person and from one type or brand of food and another. A noticeable difference is the GI rating of Special-K which produced considerably different results in tests in the US and Australia, most likely resulting from different ingredients in each location. Despite this slight variation the index provide a good guide to which foods you should be eating and which foods to avoid.

i Really Really want to go here...

Brave Girls Club

I'm a G.I. diet girl and loving it!!

OK...I have tried every diet under the sun, Weight Watchers, The Soup Diet, Atkins, but it's the same story.... you lose it you gain it back. I vowed a few years ago that I wasn't going to go on any other diet plans until I was ready to make a life commitment to changing my eating habits forever. Then my girlfriend told me about the G.I. Diet and wow!!......(that totally sounded an infomercial)

It is so easy, so not different than what I eat.... and there is no measuring and counting involved!.... and it works as I've lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks.

I recommend that anyone who is struggling with their weight and wants to improve their health give it a try!!! The book I purchased was the G.I. Clinic Diet by Rick Gallop as it gives meal plans and weekly grocery lists!

Go here for more information.

Occasionally I will share recipes and tips that have been working for me so that you all don't have to re-invent the wheel!

Do you consider yourself high maintenance?
Are you somewhat of a diva that will never be seen without their make up on?
I consider myself to be a paper bag princess. I love to to shop and look good but on a real budget.
For this page I used a magazine sillohuette for the lady and then I created a a ball gown out of a paper bag, stickers and glitter
I used alpha stickers as masks for the title. I aslo used a black Marvy Uchida Puffy felt for the hair and organza ribbon for the sash.

Life Q's - Week #8- What profundity 'moves' you and touches your soul?

What profundity 'moves' you and touches your soul?
A profundity can be a lyric from a song, a quote from the spoken word or a verse from the Bible. Something you hear and it really moves and inspires you.
For this prompt i journaled "Yet Still I Rise' by Yolanda Adams. That song has risen me up from the darkest moments in my life and it has really inspired me to always just put one step in front of the other.
For my page I first painted the background with gesso and then blue paint. I created a sun with orange printed paper that I embelished with yellow paint and gold stickles. I used a photo and added elements to it and then added a string of pompoms for some whimsy. The pom pom flower has real copper leaves and the center circle is tuille. The arrow and clouds were painted with Stampin Up shimmer paint. K and Company felt flowers and a little die cut bee finish off the page.

Artists have dirty hands...and other reasons to have an indoor picnic!

I had a wonderful artistic weekend all around. On Friday I picked up my oldest grandson for an art journaling date which he loves to do and after a couple of hours we decided to have a true feast of cheese, yogurt, pasta and fruit on a blanket with the paint still on our hands. We drank from fancy glasses and had a wonderful, magical feast. I managed to get my Life Q- Week #8 done on time as well as finishing my Chunky He(art) pages for an Art forty two swap.By the end of the weekend we all had ink on our hands and glitter in our hair and it was absolutely marvelous!!!

Life Q's - Week #6

This week's question is: Saturdays are a great day for ______________.

Life Q's - Week #6 - Saturdays is a great day for _________

Saturdays is a great day for _________

I was totally inspired by the lyrics of the song 'Saturdays In The Park by Chicago :
"Can you dig it? Yes I can and I've been waiting such a long time... for Saturday...!"
Saturdays are my most favorite day of the week! I was making this video on a Saturday and because it is my favorite day of the week I thought it would make the perfect prompt!
I started with a page from the Just Chillin paper pack from Making Memories and after coloring it with my Stampin' Up markers and distressing it with Ranger inks I added lots of bling! My journaling reads:
'Saturdays (are great) for chillaxin', lunches, movies, shopping and for hanging out with your 'sister friends!'

Life Q's - Week #5

What color brings you joy?

Life Q's - Week #5 - What color brings you joy?

What color brings you joy?
For me it's the color of new leaf green. Green is all about rebirth, renewal and balance and it's the color at the center of the rainbow!!!
For this page I truly kept it green by creating my background with junk from my purse. I then covered it with gesso and used a part of a paper doily as a stencil to create some depth to the background. I glimmer misted my flowers and created a unique flower using a paper clip and some beads and adhered them with Glossy Accents. I also made another flower out of buttons. I added a butterfly and some bling and out a 'joy' rub on over the paper vase.
